The Avenues Youth and Community Education Project

Mission Statement...

The Avenues Project believes in the young people of Bensham and Saltwell. By being part of the local community the project aims to invest in the here and now of a young persons life for them to be the best they can be in the future.

What we do...

The Avenues Youth and Community Education Project is an Urban Youth Initiative working supporting young people in Bensham and Saltwell Gateshead.

We offer Informal Educational opportunists to support the educational emotional and physical development of young people

We do this by providing a wide range of accessible provision developed in partnerships with the young people who access the project.

The project operates 6 days a week and is first and foremost a detached youth work initiative meeting with young people on their terms wherever they may be in the community.

The staff team develop relationships with young people and encourage them to engage in other services offered within the project.

This year there has been an increase in services offered to young people including:

Drop in sessions-everyday-Monday-Friday 1pm - 6pm. Free web access information and advice including Chlamydia testing, C-card registration Drugs and Alcohol support (specialists support by the SMART team)

Gender specific groups - issued base targeted sessions.

Avenues youth club - Friday evening provision using the Avenues Project providing advice and support to young people.

Avenues @ Joseph Swan Health Drop In facilitated in partnership with the school providing advice and support to students. This work has developed as a request from young people assessing support from the project during PSHEE lessons.
